Mediacom Communications has begun offering multi-gig and symmetrical broadband in parts of rural Maryland, announcing that more than 2,000 households in Willards, Pittsville, and Whaleyville can now order higher-speed service.
The company said the rollout uses upgrades to its existing fiber-powered network to deliver faster upload and download speeds, lower latency and improved reliability without major new construction.
Mediacom expects to finish upgrading its entire Maryland market by the end of March next year and has published an interactive map for residents to track progress.
According to their recent release, Mediacom said their multi-gig service will be paired with an advanced Wi‑Fi option using eero’s TrueMesh and eero 7 hardware to improve in-home coverage, and with a newly launched Mediacom Mobile service that allows customers to use their service on the go via a wireless network partner.
Currently, Mediacom says they’re the fifth-largest cable operator in the U.S., delivering services to roughly 3 million households and businesses across 22 states, primarily in smaller markets in the Midwest and Southeast.
