Mediacom Communications has announced an ambitious plan to extend multi-gigabit and symmetrical broadband services to one million homes and businesses by the end of 2026.
The initiative, announced this month, centers on upgrading the company’s fiber-powered network, which it claims will deliver faster upload and download speeds, enhanced network reliability, secure connections, and reduced latency.
Currently, Mediacom has deployed these upgraded broadband services to over 185,000 households in cities such as Cedar Rapids, Des Moines, and West Des Moines in Iowa, as well as smaller markets in Kentucky and Minnesota. The company expects its ongoing projects in Delaware, the Minneapolis area, and the Quad Cities (Iowa and Illinois) will increase coverage to more than 500,000 households by the end of 2025.
Customers can track progress of network upgrades
According to the company’s announcement, customers will be able to track the progress of network upgrades via an interactive mapping tool and can select from several tiers of service under the Xtream Internet brand.
Mediacom also plans to support these offerings with Advanced Wi-Fi powered by eero 7, which it describes as a whole-home Wi-Fi solution featuring Wi-Fi 7 technology to optimize connectivity throughout users’ homes.
The company also recently introduced Mediacom Mobile, bundled with its internet service, which offers customers access to an award-winning wireless network and includes a promotion giving one year of a free unlimited mobile line.
Mediacom also maintains a low-cost broadband option called Xtream Connect, priced affordably for qualifying households participating in federal assistance programmed, reflecting ongoing concerns over affordability and digital inclusion.
Speaking about the upgrades, Mediacom’s CTO highlighted the rapid evolution of consumer technology and the need for networks capable of supporting increasing demand.
“With these network enhancements, Mediacom is putting in place a future-proof broadband platform that can keep pace with these innovations,” he said, underscoring ambitions to scale speeds beyond current multi-gigabit offerings.
