Houston-based Lyte Fiber is grabbing headlines again this week after the internet service provider (ISP) lit their first customers in Baytown, Texas.

The moment was described as a “major milestone” for Lyte Fiber in an announcement this Thursday.

Baytown, a city located on the northern shore of Galveston Bay, will see around 15,000 locations gain access to Lyte Fiber’s network, the ISP’s release stated.

Earlier this week, Lyte Fiber made news after announcing that network construction had begun in Marshall, an East Texas community.

Lyte Fiber’s efforts in Baytown represent a $15 million investment into the community, according to Lyte Fiber.

Meanwhile, in Marshall, Lyte Fiber is investing $10 million into a transformation of that community’s digital infrastructure through network.

A ribbon cutting in Baytown this week marked Lyte Fiber’s recent achievement in the community.

Mayor Charles Johnson said the occasion marked a bold step that Baytown has taken into the future.

“Lyte Fiber’s investment in our community ensures our residents and businesses have the tools to compete, innovate, and succeed in a rapidly evolving world,” Johnson said, according to Lyte Fiber’s release. “We couldn’t be prouder to see this milestone achieved right here in Baytown.”

Tracey Wheeler, the president and CEO of the Baytown Chamber of Commerce, also commented on Lyte Fiber’s investment.

She said it would drive growth in the community and improve quality of life.

With the news, Lyte Fiber, which was formed in partnership with SDC Capital Partners, additionally pledged a one percent “annual giveback” to local causes and charities.
