Virginia-based internet service provider (ISP) Lumos has announced their third major investment into the Buckeye State.
The announcement, released yesterday, accompanied a list of communities where Lumos’ fiber network will become available after construction completes in Stark County, Ohio.
In total, the investment represents $150 million and will lead to 2,000 miles of new fiber being constructed, according to Lumos.
Lydia Mihalik, director of the Ohio Department of Development, was quoted applauding the news in Lumos’ release.
Keeping Ohio ‘on the cutting edge’
“At the state level, we believe strongly in the benefits of broadband expansion,” Mihalik said. “This latest investment by Lumos not only keeps Ohio on the cutting edge in fiber technology, but it will enhance the quality of life for the people of Stark County, help local businesses thrive, and fuel economic development across Northeast Ohio.”
David Maley, the planning and development director in the City of Louisville, Ohio was also quoted in the announcement.
Louisville is one of more than a dozen communities that will eventually benefit from the network’s construction.
“Increasing internet connectivity choices for Louisville residents is one of many vital components of the city’s overall efforts to enhance the quality of life for our residents,” Maley said. “Fiber investment in our city will enable residents to work, learn and connect with each other more effectively.”
The full list of communities where Lumos fiber service will be offered after construction is completed includes Canal Fulton, Canton, Canton Township, Louisville, Nimishillen Township, Massillon, Perry Township, North Canton, Jackson Township, Plain Township, East Canton, Hartville, Lake Township, Hills and Dales and Meyers Lake.
Construction is slated to begin in 2025, according to the ISP’s Dec. 5 release.
