Kittitas County and Lightcurve announced the start of new fiber network construction that will bring high-speed internet to rural communities in Kittitas County.

This project will deliver future-ready fiber connectivity to residents and businesses within the county—focused on the Thorp and Edgemont communities, marking a major milestone in expanding broadband access across the county.

Primarily funded by a $3.3 million grant from the Washington State Public Works Board Broadband Program ARPA Coronavirus Capital Projects Fund, the initiative was designed to bring broadband to unserved and underserved areas. Lightcurve, a local internet service provider with years of history serving Washington communities, partnered with Kittitas County to construct and operate the new fiber network.

The project extends service to hundreds of homes and businesses, offering symmetrical speeds of up to 2,000 Mbps.

“Years of preparation”

“This investment ensures that our rural residents can access the same digital opportunities as those in more urban areas,” said Kittitas County Commissioner Cory Wright. “From remote work and education to telehealth and business development, these fiber networks are essential infrastructure for our future. The completion of this project demonstrates what can be achieved through strong public-private partnerships and years of preparation.”

The new fiber connections will deliver fast, reliable, and scalable broadband service—capable of supporting everything from streaming and gaming to small business operations and remote learning.

“Bringing these fiber builds to Kittitas County represents more than just new infrastructure—it represents our shared commitment to ensuring every community has the tools to thrive in a digital world,” said Beth Barnes, SVP of Sales and Marketing at Lightcurve. “Lightcurve is proud to partner with the County to bring fiber connectivity where it’s needed most. This is what local investment, local service, and local impact look like.”

With construction now starting, residents should watch for communication regarding bringing fiber to their home at no cost during the construction period.
