Find out how AI is changing the game and addressing some of the challenges facing network construction, like human error and a labor shortage.

Rob Laudati, the vice president of product and partnerships at Render Networks, says a whole new world is at the fingertips of network designers when it comes to artificial intelligence (AI).

Laudati recently joined us on our podcast Beyond the Cable to discuss how AI is being used to address shortfalls during network construction.

He said it’s a really great time to think about how AI can apply to telecommunications, but also said the industry has just begun to scratch the surface of AI’s capabilities.

“In many cases there will always be a human in the loop,” Laudati said.

He added that maybe a day will come where robots are building out networks in difficult terrain. For now, Laudati said he’s focused on how AI can help project managers make decisions during fiber network construction.

He said AI can also help field construction workers make sure equipment is installed correctly. It can even identify photos depicting project progress which, when taken incorrectly, can often hold up approvals.

“I think there’s a really important opportunity not to remove the human from the equation,” he said. “But to make them far more efficient.”
