Building on recent momentum in Nebraska, service provider Great Plains Communications (GPC) has revealed plans to continue the expansion of their high-speed internet footprint in the Cornhusker State.
The company, which operates a growing, privately-owned 18,000+ mile fiber network reaching 13 states, announced this news this week and added that additional projects in the state have recently been completed in the communities of Gretna, Papillion, Ralston, and Kearney.
“Additional urban Nebraska projects in progress include over 1,000 passings in LaVista, projected to be complete in Q3, 2024,” the company’s May 9 announcement stated. “Several rural projects are also underway, made possible with assistance of various government funding programs including Broadband Bridge, Nebraska Universal Service Fund (NUSF), Alternative Connect America Cost Model (ACAM) and the Nebraska Capital Funds Project.”
The aforementioned projects will extend fiber broadband to more than 1,500 homes to unserved or underserved locations by the end of the year in Arnold, Ewing, Wausa, Hayes Center, Hay Springs, Herman, Imperial, Niobrara, Petersburg, Stapleton, and Winnetoon, according to GPC’s release.
GPC’s president and COO, Joe Pellegrini, said GPC remains a dedicated technology partner with the state of Nebraska.
“It is our goal to bring fast, reliable fiber-driven services to more Nebraska homes and businesses, allowing residents and business owners to leverage the power of technology to drive further growth and progress in our home state,” Pellegrini said.
In addition, GPC announced their buildout in Southeastern Indiana will bring up to 2 Gbps symmetrical fiber internet to over 1,200 additional locations in Aurora, Vevay, and several other communities. According to GPC’s announcement, additional projects in Bartholomew, Decatur, and Ripley are expected to be completed by year’s end.
