GoNetspeed has announced a planned expansion in Newport, Rhode Island, marking the tenth state to be added to the ISP’s footprint.

A $13 million investment, combined from public and private funds, will propel GoNetspeed’s expansion into Rhode Island, which will become the tenth state in the ISP’s footprint.
Of the funds powering the investment, $9 million were awarded through the Rhode Island Commerce Corporation’s Capital Projects Fund, according to GoNetspeed.
Additionally, GoNetspeed has contributed $3.9 million in investment into their Rhode Island expansion, which is set to get underway in Newport.
The expansion will eventually deliver high-speed fiber optic internet to 8,200 homes in the community, according to the ISP.
Comments from Rhode Island Governor Dan McKee were included in GoNetspeed’s May 23 announcement.
“Rhode Islanders deserve access to fast, reliable internet,” McKee said. “This investment is not just about connectivity; it’s about strengthening our economy, supporting local businesses, and ensuring everyone can participate in today’s digital world—key goals of our RI 2030 plan.”
Also included were comments from Rhode Island Secretary of Commerce Liz Tanner.
“With ConnectRI, we’re delivering targeted broadband solutions that make a real difference in the lives of residents and businesses,” Tanner said. “These investments will help strengthen Rhode Island’s infrastructure and keep us competitive.”
Construction on the Newport expansion is set to begin this fall, Completion on the network is expected by spring of 2026, the provider’s announcement stated.
