Maine residents and businesses in Portland and Thomaston will now have access to GoNetspeed’s fiber-optic network after two network projects were completed in both communities.
In Portland, Maine’s largest city, the announcement means more than 13,000 locations have access to GoNetspeed’s network. A March 25 release from the company cited GoNetspeed’s $8.5 million investment towards network construction in Portland as a symbol of the company’s commitment to the community.
“With access to other provider options, many of Portland’s residents and businesses will have access to more choice, improving the quality of service received across the board,” said Richard Clark, the CEO of GoNetspeed. “We are proud to serve Portland and look forward to seeing the direct positive impact of our 100 percent fiber internet.”
A similar announcement, released March 27, said network construction completion in Thomaston, in Knox County, has positioned the company “for a successful future online.”
With the completion of network construction efforts in Portland and Thomaston, both communities join Auburn, Bangor, Bath, Brunswick, Kennebunk, Lewiston, Old Orchard Beach, Orono, Rockland, Saco, Scarborough, and over a dozen other communities across the state who have access to GoNetspeed’s service.
The ISP, which also serves customers in Alabama, Connecticut, Massachusetts, Missouri, New York, Pennsylvania, Vermont, and West Virginia, revealed that follow up announcements about their efforts in Maine are likely as “many other communities throughout the state are well on their way to having access to GoNetspeed’s fiber internet,” both announcements stated.
GoNetspeeed, headquartered in Alabama, is one of the largest independent ISP’s on the East Coast, a summary of the company reported.
