Residents and businesses in Gardner, Massachusetts, a community of roughly 21,000 residents, are the next step in Gateway Fiber’s Northeastern expansion.
Gateway Fiber announced their intent to expand service in Gardner this week and hinted at additional planned expansions on the horizon.
“The expansion of service in Gardner adds to Gateway Fiber’s growing network in western Massachusetts, with plans to continue bringing the fiber network to more of the region throughout the rest of 2024 and into 2025,” the company’s September 16 release stated.
In the release, the company pledged to keep residents up to date as construction begins in Garnder and explained that the expansion is part of the company’s “commitment to investing in western Massachusetts by creating local jobs and supporting the local area.”
Earlier this year, Gateway began construction in Northampton, another Massachusetts community in the western, more rural part of the state.
Michael Nicholson, Gardner’s mayor, said he’s thrilled that Gateway Fiber will begin providing services in Gardner.
“As we work to increase our business community and grow our housing stock, Gateway Fiber is the next piece of the puzzle to make sure Gardner stands ahead of our peers in being an attractive community for people to be able to live, work, and be at home,” he said.
Nicholson, in comments included with Gateway Fiber’s announcement, said providing residents with internet options is crucial to building a thriving community.
Sarah Lang, a general manager for Gateway Fiber’s Massachusetts operations, said the development means Gardner residents “will soon have a truly faster and more reliable internet than they’ve ever had before.”
“Fiber internet can transform a community, with faster connectivity and more reliable service than legacy internet services such as cable or phone-based internet,” Lang said.
Gateway Fiber is known for providing customer service that is “nearly 70 points higher than the industry average,” and offers customers month-to-month pricing, whole-home Wi-Fi, no contracts, and no installation charges, Gateway’s release stated.
