Less than a year after first breaking ground, a project by a service provider to bring fiber internet to over 4,300 homes and businesses in a coastal North Carolina community is complete.
Thousands of homes and businesses in Edenton, North Carolina, located in the state’s Inner Banks region, are now beneficiaries of a completed network expansion by Fybe.
The expansion, which brings fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) technology to 4,300 locations, will allow users to send data as fast as about 70 percent of the speed of light and provide broadband connections at speeds of up to 1 Gbps, according to Fybe, which is a subsidiary of Roanoke Cooperative.
Fybe also added that their FTTH technology in Edenton, which is squarely within Hurricane Alley, is less susceptible to outages than above ground networks.
“After breaking ground in Edenton earlier this year, we’re proud to launch our services with so many families and entrepreneurs,” said Bo Coughlin, COO of Fybe. His comments were included in Fybe’s Nov. 8 announcement about the network expansion’s completion.
“We know how much reliable, fast internet can make a difference in the daily lives of the people in this area, so we’re happy to be a part of this community’s future success,” he said.
