Hilda Legg, who is known by many throughout Kentucky as the “broadband evangelist,” spoke with Broadband Communities during our latest episode of the Beyond the Cable podcast.

Subsidies aren’t always the best way to build a business model but millions rely on them to help pay for life-changing high-speed internet, according to Hilda Legg, who previously served as the Rural Development Kentucky State Director for the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) under the Trump Administration.

“Subsidies are always not a way in my mind to build a good, long-term, substantial business,” she said while speaking to Broadband Communities in the latest episode of the Beyond the Cable podcast. “But I still think that at this point and time there are still, especially in our rural areas again, very aging demographics.”

Legg said she supports anything that can help that demographic become more user-friendly on the internet. She made the comments in response to a question about whether or not she supported a push for renewed Affordable Connectivity Program funding in the U.S. Congress.
