New fiber network construction by Nextlink Internet has kicked off in several Texas communities, according to the Texas-based internet service provider (ISP).

In a flurry of announcements Tuesday, Nextlink said network construction had begun in Brenham, Canton, and Falls County.

The largest of the project’s announced Tuesday was in Brenham, where the ISP plans to deliver Nextlink Fiber access to 9,000 homes and business.

Meanwhile, Nextlink is already active in Brenham, where the company provides high-speed wireless internet service to the community’s rural areas.

“So, we’re excited to have the opportunity to bring a new choice for fiber internet to homes and businesses within the city,” said Bill Baker, Nextlink’s founder and CEO.

According to Nextlink’s release, the ISP plans to deploy data speeds up to symmetrical 2 gigabits per second in Brenham, along with Canton and Falls County.

The deployment in Falls County, according to Nextlink, will reach 5,800 homes and businesses.

Nextlink’s network will reach communities like Rosebud, Westphalia, Lott, Chilton, Golinda, Reagan, and Marlin, the ISP’s announcement stated.

On a mission to connect rural Texans

The company’s release also explained how the Falls County project was made possible.

“The fiber deployment in Falls County, TX is made possible in part by the Texas Broadband Office’s BOOT 2 competitive broadband grant program that funded critical broadband infrastructure projects to bring last-mile connectivity unserved homes and businesses across the state.” – Nextlink Internet’s announcement

In other comments included with Nextlink’s announcement, the ISP’s CEO said Nextlink’s mission “is to connect small towns and rural areas across Texas.”

In Canton, where Nextlink also already serves rural residents with fixed wireless, the construction of Nextlink Fiber’s network is expected to reach 2,000 homes and businesses, according to the ISP.
