A newly released independent report commissioned by Ezee Fiber highlights fiber broadband as a key driver of Houston’s economic growth, contributing an estimated $1.6 billion in single-family home value since 2020 and supporting thousands of local jobs.
The report, titled “Fueling Houston’s Growth with Fiber,” tracks the expansion of fiber infrastructure in Harris County, where coverage grew from 75% in 2022 to 94% by late 2025. Over a similar period, median download speeds in the county more than tripled, rising from approximately 80 Mbps in December 2022 to over 280 Mbps by December 2025.
Key findings outlined in the study include:
- Property value expansion
- Fiber availability added roughly $275 million annually to Houston single-family homes sold between 2020 and 2025, with projections estimating full regional coverage could yield an additional $2.4 billion in property value by 2029.
- Workforce and business gains
- Fiber deployment contributed to more than 2,000 jobs gained in Houston between 2021 and 2024. The study noted that communities with median download speeds of 250 Mbps generate more small businesses than those at 100 Mbps.
- Educational impact
- Students in areas with fiber access showed improved standardized test performance, with reading scores up 1.1% and math scores up 2.3%.
The report also details fiber’s role in supporting regional infrastructure and major institutions, including NASA’s Johnson Space Center, aerospace firms Axiom Space and Intuitive Machines, and smart grid operations across more than 4,200 local energy firms.
“This report puts a number on something we see every day in Houston: fiber has become core infrastructure here, not just an amenity,” said Suzy Winger, senior vice president and general manager for Ezee Fiber’s Texas region.
