Federal Communications Commission (FCC) Chairwoman Jessica Rosenworcel has congratulated Brendan Carr on his nomination to serve as chair.

In a statement issued this week, Rosenworcel, a Democrat, said she believes that Carr has a full understanding of the chair’s role.

“From his time here, I am confident that Commissioner Carr is familiar with the staff, the responsibilities of this new role, and the importance of continued U.S. leadership in communications,” Rosenworcel’s Nov. 18 statement read.

This weekend, Republican Brendan Carr was selected as President-elect Donald Trump’s pick to serve as permanent chair of the FCC.

Trump announced the nomination Sunday evening with a post on Truth Social, a social-media platform owned by Trump Media.

Commissioner Anna M. Gomez, another Democrat on the FCC, also released a statement congratulating Carr this week.

“I look forward to continuing to work with him to ensure we faithfully implement the Communications Act and other Congressional mandates to serve the public,” Gomez’s statement read.

Commissioner Geoffrey Starks, a Democrat, congratulated Carr as well.

Starks called Carr a leader and a dedicated public servant.

“I deeply respect his work,” Starks’ statement read. “Most importantly, we have worked together on numerous bipartisan priorities, including national security, connectivity, and media policy, and I look forward to continuing that important work.”

Carr’s vision for the FCC

Following Trump’s election victory, Carr congratulated the former president. In his Nov. 7 congratulatory statement, Carr gave hints to his vision for the FCC.

“The American people have sent a clear and decisive message to Washington,” Carr stated. “It is time to change course.”

Carr said the FCC will play a key role “reining in big tech” and “ensuring that broadcasters operate in the public interest.”

Carr also said the FCC will attempt to support economic growth while advancing national security interests and supporting law enforcement.

“The FCC can and must deliver results for the American people,” Carr stated.
