A Canadian energy firm that focuses on the exploration, development, and production of natural gas, helium, and hydrogen has identified a new site with a “significant potential for hosting data centers.”

The company, known as the Desert Mountain Energy Corp. (DME), disclosed the information Wednesday in a public update provided by the firm.

“Recently, the DME gas field in the Rozwell [sic] area has been identified as having significant potential for hosting data centers,” the firm’s update stated.

Additionally, DME revealed they’ve been conducting a pilot project.

DME’s release stated the purpose of the pilot is to determine “the feasibility of operating small modular cryptocurrency mining equipment and small data centers” at their West Pecos Gas Field.

Also mentioned in the update, DME disclosed that they’re investigating the possibility of streamlining their collection systems to facilitate an “increase in the percentage of helium and the transportation of processed gas to a mainline for use by a data center.”

According to DME, the energy provider is investigating the possibility as a result of a partnership between a local gas producer and a major data center operator.

While the particular data center operator involved in the partnership was not mentioned, DME noted that the operator is constructing a 250 MW net-zero energy data center somewhere within the state.
