Oklahoma-based Dobson Fiber has begun work on an effort to extend network access to a majority of homes in Okmulgee.

The project is representative of a multimillion-dollar investment into Dobson’s Okmulgee footprint, according to a release last week.

Jim Horsburgh, through comments in Dobson’s announcement, said the network will reach a majority of homes in the community upon completion.

“We’re delighted by the overwhelming support from our customers this year and are excited to extend Dobson Fiber’s presence to the majority of homes in Okmulgee,” said Horsburgh, Dobson’s chief strategy officer. “This expansion also has a large impact on local businesses with faster and more reliable connectivity to fuel their growth.”

Meanwhile, Dobson’s CEO, Francisco Maella, highlighted the speeds of Dobson Fiber’s network offerings.

He said Dobson offers “the most advanced fiber network with the fastest residential speeds available nationwide.”

“Our network deployments are initially designed to deliver up to 10 gigabits per second to residents we serve,” Maella said. “This same network will be capable of delivering 100 gigabits within the next five years.”

Construction on the network in Okmulgee, which has under 12,000 residents, will be completed in phases, the ISP’s release stated.

Currently, Dobson Fiber serves nearly 40 communities in Oklahoma and Arkansas, a summary of their operations reported.
