Improvements to Mediacom’s network in Des Moines will be ongoing this summer, leading to faster upload and download speeds for the provider’s customers in the city.

In an announcement Tuesday, the cable-operator giant revealed that they’ve already begun activating their enhanced network on a neighborhood-by-neighborhood basis.

According to Mediacom, the improvements will allow the company to someday offer “speeds of 10 gigabits per second and beyond in the coming years.”

They hope to see work completed in Des Moines by August, Mediacom’s release stated.

For now, customers of Mediacom’s Xtream Internet will be able to choose among Mediacom’s existing plans.

The plans range up to download speeds at 2,000 Megabits per second (Mbps), and 1,000 Mbps upload speeds.

“Since this new technology is delivered using Mediacom’s existing fiber-rich network architecture, it will not be necessary to dig up yards to add bulky equipment or bury cables,” Mediacom’s release explained.

Performance speeds can additionally be enhanced with Mediacom’s “whole-home Wi-Fi solution featuring eero’s TrueMesh.”

According to Mediacom, the solution also now features Wi-Fi 7 capabilities.

Meanwhile, the company announced they remain committed to offering a low-cost option.

The plan, called Xtream Connect, is priced at $14.99 per month plus modem rental.

According to Mediacom, the plan “provides qualifying households an affordable pathway to the internet.”

The plan is available to households in Mediacom’s service territory that participate in programs like SNAP, Medicaid, SSI, and WIC.

Residents of Des Moines can track Mediacom’s progress in the city here, at Mediacom’s website.
