The latest product releases from Corning Optical Communications have continued Corning Incorporated’s strategy of asserting market leadership with optical communications solutions.

Corning has released a new technology solution the company claims will both deliver cost savings and help network operators meet sustainability goals.

The solution, which is dubbed Multifiber Pushlok Technology, is described as a “click and stick” fiber-dense connector that can allow operators to deploy more fiber in compact spaces.

Corning, which said their products have helped operators reach more than 100 million customers worldwide, called their latest advancement “an essential consideration for increasing data usage,” in a release this week.

Bob Whitman, a vice president of marketing and development at Corning, said the company’s new technology can help operators deploy more fiber to customers.

“We’re working alongside our customers to address new and ongoing challenges, such as cost constraints, labor shortages, and aggressive deployment timelines,” he said, according to the New York-based company’s March 18 announcement.

Corning, as a company, sold over $900 million worth of optical communications product in 2023 and, while sales were down 2 percent year-over-year, the company said that was a reflection of carrier customers opting to draw down their inventory.

“We are entering 2024 operationally strong, and we have an opportunity to increase our sales by more than $3 billion in the medium term as our markets normalize,” said Wendell Weeks, Corning’s chairman and CEO in the company’s 2023 financial report. “As we capture that growth, we expect to deliver powerful incremental profit and cash flow – which is a terrific opportunity for our shareholders.”

Since the turn of the new year, Corning has released a Radio Access Network (RAN) Compute Platform, developed in collaboration with Dell Technologies and Intel to speed the deployment of 5G, and an indoor cellular solution, the Everon 5G Enterprise Radio Access Network (ERAN).

According to Corning, the ERAN “provides end users with robust, reliable cellular coverage in hospitals, hotels, airports, and other high-density environments regardless of their mobile provider.”

A release in Feb. from the company said the solution can reduce installation times by 75 percent, and the cost of network ownership by 50 percent, while supporting multiple mobile operators over a common network.

“Everon 5G ERAN sets a new industry standard by offering a streamlined solution for coverage-challenged places that are part of our daily lives, like hospitals, hotels, and office buildings,” said Shirish Nagaraj, Corning Optical Communications’ CTO, when the product was released last month.
