A new 60-mile ring of route fiber around Las Vegas will reach four cities and multiple data centers, according to the firm behind the project.

In an announcement Monday, Light Source Communications (LSC), the company building the network, said construction on the network is underway.

Permitting is “substantially complete,” the announcement stated, while design and engineering have already been finished.

Meanwhile, “LSC has already secured two major global hyperscalers as anchor tenants on the Las Vegas route,” LSC’s release stated.

Additionally, LSC said more hyperscalers are “set to join in the future,” though no companies were named.

The network, to be completed later this year, is the third major project LSC has undertaken this year.

As has been previously reported, LSC is also undertaking similar efforts in Tulsa and Phoenix.

According to LSC, the company’s Las Vegas project will help to “fill a substantial connectivity gap in the region.”

The company also argues that Las Vegas is currently underserved for AI and machine learning.

Pete Empie Sr., CSO and President of LSC, said a big shift is occurring with the growth of the aforementioned industries.

Hyperscalers and enterprises alike require high-capacity, low-latency connectivity to compete in today’s global economy, and we are proud to support them with customized solutions through our state-of-the-art dark fiber networks,” he said.
