Over 850 homes and businesses in and around the South Carolina communities of McConnells, Catawba, Clover, York, and Edgemoor now have access to Comporium’s fiber network.

The announcement last week comes after Comporium, based in South Carolina, spent several months laying 64 miles of fiber in York and Chester counties.

According to Comporium, the company invested over $5 million into the network’s construction.

State-issued funds from the American Rescue Plan Act, given to Comporium by the South Carolina Broadband Office, were also utilized to complete the project, Comporium’s Jan. 16 announcement said.

The network is capable of delivering speeds of 5 gigabits per second, according to Comporium.

Additionally, Comporium installed two wi-fi hotspots as part of the project.

The hotspots, installed to a city park downtown and at the Historic Brattonsville facility, are the result of a partnership between Comporium, York, and the Culture and Heritage Museums of York County.

With the announcement, Comporium said they are continuing “to work with state and federal agencies to find ways to extend or upgrade service to more rural customers.”
