Comporium, a participant in the Affordable Connectivity Program, has announced that hundreds of locations in rural South Carolina benefitted from their efforts in 2023, which focused on Lancaster County.

An investment of over $1.7 million, comprised of funds from both Comporium and state grants, has led to network upgrades that have increased internet speeds to rural residents north of Buford, South Carolina.

The completed 2023 upgrades, which brought one gigabit speeds to 274 homes and businesses in the rural area, were announced by Comporium Jan. 10.

The company said the grants received were a combination of American Rescue Plan Act grants and Rural Broadband grants.

“These were made possible through funding from the South Carolina Department of Commerce and administered by the South Carolina Broadband Office within the Office of Regulatory Staff,” the company’s announcement stated.

Comporium stated they are currently scheduling installation appointments for local residents through their website.

Areas that saw the network upgrades included Stacks Road, from Tabernacle Road to Wildcat Creek, Tabernacle Road – from Buford High School to Ringling Road, Camp Creek Road – from Campbell Lake Road to Daystar Road, most of Willie Usher Road, and sections of Cannery Road.
