A $15 million investment from Comcast will back the company’s network expansion efforts in Charlotte County, Florida.

The new effort, which aims to provide thousands of homes and businesses across the county with access to Xfinity, is already in the construction phase, according to Comcast.

A Jan. 24 release from Comcast listed the communities of Rotonda West, Gulf Cove, South Gulf Cove, and Port Charlotte as communities where Comcast’s network expansion will occur.

According to Comcast, the network will outpace competitors in terms of internet speeds once completed, offering up to 1.2 gigabits per second for residential customers and up to 100 gigabits per second for businesses.

District 3 Charlotte County Commissioner Bill Truex said the county is excited for the opportunities that Comcast’s network will bring. Truex’s comments were included in Comcast’s release.

“With this investment, they are not only bringing high-speed, reliable internet to our residents, but also showing a commitment to our community,” Truex said.

He additionally called Comcast’s investment “a wonderful benefit for the area.”

As part of the company’s stated commitment to the region, Comcast also provided the Boys & Girls Club of Charlotte County with a $30,000 grant to build a computer lab.

Lynn Dorler, Chief Executive Officer of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Charlotte County, said the computer lab will support the facility’s 350 youth participants.

“Comcast’s commitment to connecting and empowering communities aligns with our mission and we look forward to working together to make an impact and benefit local youth and families,” Dorler said.
