Comcast is making significant strides in expanding its fiber optic network throughout Citrus County, Florida.

The news comes as Comcast rolls out a project announced last month focused on the Inverness Highlands North area.

The expansion is set to connect over 4,000 homes and businesses. Additionally, it promises residents and companies access to fast, reliable internet with speeds, according to Comcast’s June release.

Comcast’s announcement detailed the network expansion as covering a specific section of Inverness Highlands North, bounded by East Perry Street to the north, East Gulf to Lake Highway to the south, North Crestwood Avenue to the east, and North Croft Avenue to the west.

The project builds on Comcast’s previous $8 million investment launched in June 2024, which Comcast said activated a fiber-rich network connecting homes and businesses in Inverness, Hernando, Floral City, and Beverly Hills.

That earlier phase already enhanced access to speeds up to 1.2 Gbps for residential customers, the provider previously announced.

Josh Wooten, President of the Citrus County Chamber, emphasized the necessity of reliable high-speed internet for the area’s growth and quality of life.

“Reliable, high-speed internet is essential, whether you’re working remotely, learning online or streaming your favorite shows,” Wooten said. “Comcast’s continued expansion in our community gives residents and businesses a powerful new fiber connectivity option and reinforces why Citrus County is such an ideal place to live, work and grow a business.”

The broader expansion project will provide up to 1 gigabit per second (Gbps) for residential customers and up to 100 Gbps for businesses, the company said. Meanwhile, the project is expected to be complete by late 2025, according to Comcast.
