DigitalC, a non-profit that is Cleveland’s choice for internet connectivity, has turned to two companies to employ innovative technologies in an attempt to close that city’s digital divide.

InCoax Networks, which has developed a MoCA Access solution, and Tarana Wireless, a creator of next generation fixed-wireless technology, known as G1, have both been utilized by Digital C to connect tenants in multi-dwelling units (MDUs), a recent release from InCoax recently stated.

The collaboration has allowed DigitalC to connect MDUs “by utilizing existing in-building coaxial cabling,” the release stated.

Jose Valdez, the chief operating officer for DigitalC, explained the importance of the collaboration with comments included with InCoax’s announcement.

“By partnering with InCoax and Tarana, we are delivering the internet experience that Cleveland deserves – one that offers choice and superior connectivity,” Valdez said.

Valdez called the efforts “transformative” for residents of Lakeview Terrace.

“We are proud to collaborate with the Cuyahoga Metropolitan Housing Authority to remove limits and create winning outcomes for residents,” Valdez said.

As previously reported by Broadband Communities, DigitalC’s efforts will result in all of Cleveland’s 170,000 households having access to low-cost broadband by the middle of 2025, according to BroadbandOhio.

Access to the network will be locked in at $18 per month for at least a decade, with changes due to inflation being allowed after the fifth year.

At the beginning of this year, there were almost 30,000 households in Cleveland without any type of broadband, according to DigitalC’s website, which represents around 17 percent of the city’s population.
