OAKLAND, CA — CEdiS, a residential service provider in Italy, is deploying a fiber-to-the-home network in the northern Italian province of Trentino, using GPON equipment from Zhone Technologies. Zhone’s MXK multiservice access node system and zNID optical network terminals, supplied by its channel partner Dimension Data, will serve as the core enablers for the CEdiS deployment.
CEdiS began integrating Zhone’s MXK terabit access platform into its network in the second half of 2011 after a three-month trial. CEdiS is migrating to fiber in response to increased demand for faster speeds for its most bandwidth-intense services – signaling the need for more flexibility and better performance capabilities across its more than 100 kilometers of fiber network.
“Zhone’s GPON solutions give us a high level of flexibility in both our service options and system configuration options,” says Daniele Zontini, chief technology officer at CEdiS. “With our expanded bandwidth capacity, we are now able to efficiently deliver the high-quality advanced services that will elevate our competitive position and accelerate our growth strategy in the coming months. Zhone’s portfolio of zNID ONTs and the MXK help us extend our reach with our customers.”
