C Spire announced this week that it has completed its work under Mississippi’s allocation of the federal Capital Projects Fund, saying the company provided home fiber access to more than 14,000 residences and to 18,530 undeveloped lots across multiple counties.

The Ridgeland-based technology provider said the work reached communities “from Amite to Lincoln to Lamar to Madison to Desoto and Hinds counties,” and that some of the projects targeted underserved areas of the state.

The investment came through a grant from the U.S. Department of the Treasury’s $10 billion Capital Projects Fund, administered in Mississippi by BEAM, the state’s Office of Broadband Expansion and Accessibility.

Mississippi received $164 million from the program to build broadband infrastructure capable of reliably meeting or exceeding symmetrical speeds of 100 Mbps; C Spire said it finished the work ahead of schedule and on budget.

“Strengthening communities in meaningful ways”

“Our completion of the Capital Projects Fund Grant Program reflects C Spire’s history of strengthening communities in meaningful ways to improve lives, support technology advancement and expand connectivity for all Mississippians,” Suzy Hays, C Spire’s president and CEO, said in the company announcement. She framed the expanded fiber network as preparation for growing demand for “high-speed, internet-enabled smart homes, seamless AI-enhanced experiences and 5G connectivity.”

State broadband officials praised the effort.

“The Capital Projects Fund was intentionally designed to deliver swift, high-impact results, and C Spire’s execution reflects that vision,” said Sally Doty, director of BEAM. Doty added that the company’s work delivers “immediate economic value and strengthens the connectivity that will support innovation, workforce growth, and future investment across our state.”

C Spire also reported broader fiber expansion in the past year: a $60 million investment in new fiber installations, 1,000 miles of new fiber for a statewide total of 12,200 miles, and passing 37,500 additional homes, bringing the company’s Mississippi total to 217,900 homes passed. The company said the expansion reached areas including Hinds and Tate counties and cities such as Meridian, McComb, Columbia, Southaven and Philadelphia.

The company portrayed the work as part of a continued push into wired and wireless services.

C Spire describes itself as the largest privately held U.S. wireless carrier and a leading fiber internet provider in Mississippi, Alabama, and Tennessee, offering fiber networks, 5G wireless service and cloud and AI solutions to businesses.
