Promoted as a fixed wireless access solution for businesses of all sizes, AT&T’s new Internet Air for Business can be installed within minutes, according to AT&T, and is poised set the company up as a competitor for commercial customers in the fixed wireless access market.
According to AT&T, the Internet Air for Business solution can be installed within minutes “with no drilling or coordinating with building management,” the company’s recent blog post about the new solution stated. “You don’t need a technician to install it.”
AT&T’s announcement stated the service will only be available at qualified business service addresses that are within AT&T’s coverage areas that can support the Air for Business service.
“AT&T Business Fiber and AT&T Internet Air for Business enables more business locations across the nation and delivers the value and flexibility businesses need from a leading nationwide broadband connectivity provider,” said Mike Troiano, and SVP of product and pricing with AT&T Business.
In comments included with AT&T’s blog post, Troiano said customers have told AT&T that they need diverse connectivity options that can connect new locations. He said consumers are more willing to adopt “a converged connectivity approach.”
The latest development is part of AT&T’s pivot to fixed wireless technology.
Last year, Erin Scarborough, the president of broadband and connectivity initiatives at AT&T, wrote a blog post about the company’s new fixed wireless home service. Scarborough wrote that AT&T has worked for the past year to identify “pain points” for customers.
The AT&T Internet Air services, delivered over the company’s 5G network, are now being promoted as a new way for users to connect their homes in areas where 5G is available.
Due to the feedback, AT&T “created a solution by utilizing available network capacity in areas that are less densely populated while still providing a strong connection,” Scarborough wrote.
“Thus, AT&T Internet Air was born.”
According to AT&T, the AT&T Internet Air for Business technology is now offered in nearly 60 markets around the United States.
