A series of towers, 27 in total, will be constructed by eX² Technology to bolster Yuma County’s water conservation and precision agriculture efforts, the Vivacity company has announced.

Following the project, farms in all six of Yuma County’s irrigation districts will have access to broadband, according to eX² Technology’s Tuesday announcement.

In total, Yuma County has over 190,000 acres of cropland, 94 percent of which is irrigated. The cropland, collectively, brings over $3 billion annually to the county, eX² Technology’s release stated.

Following eX² Technology’s selection by Yuma County, comments from Yuma County Administrator Ian McGaughey described the importance of the project in the company’s announcement.

“This infrastructure will be a catalyst for enabling smart irrigation systems, including remote soil sensing, automation and mechanization, as well as socio-economic growth,” McGaughey stated. “It will position Yuma County as a leader in agricultural technology and connectivity for years to come.”

Helping to fund the project will be $6 million in grant funding the county was awarded from local recovery funds under the American Rescue Plan Act, according to eX² Technology.

‘We will deliver a solution that helps address the needs of rural and urban areas’

Christopher Rabii, the CEO of Vivacity Infrastructure Group, praised eX² Technology’s partnership with Yuma County.

“Through our partnership, we will deliver a solution that helps address the needs of rural and urban areas,” he said. “Paving the way for economic expansion and technological advancement.”

According to the release, Terra Consulting Group, another Vivacity company, is also involved in the project as well.

“This partnership combines eX²’s deep expertise in fiber optic infrastructure solutions with Terra’s specialized capabilities in wireless site design and infrastructure development,” the release stated.

Last year, eX² also made news in Arizona by breaking ground on a 100-mile open access dark fiber network.

As reported at the time, that will expand connectivity in Navajo County, one of the most rural corners of the state.
