Savannah’s connectivity marketplace will be a little more crowded following the entrance of BroadbandOne, a wireless telco-as-a-service (TaaS) provider, to the local list of provider options.
California-based BroadbandOne, also known as BB1, called the extension of their services to Savannah a strategic expansion in a release Tuesday.
Savannah will mark BB1’s second expansion, according to BroadbandOne’s release.
Last year, BroadbandOne expanded to the marketplace in Salinas, California thanks to a partnership with Etheric Networks.
Included with their recent announcement, BB1 also teased other plans for the U.S. Southeast.
“The company plans further Southeast growth into additional markets where it holds licensed 28GHz mmWave spectrum,” the company’s release stated.
BB1 mentioned Athens, Augusta, and Columbia, South Carolina as potential locations that might see future expansions.
“With FWA-mmWave, all we need is a rooftop and a clear line of sight from our tower—now businesses have access to high-speed, enterprise-grade internet without the wait,” said Jason Celaya, BB1’s director of business development, in comments included with BB1’s announcement.
With fixed-wireless access (FWA) technology, Celaya said one of the biggest advantages for BB1 is the company’s ability to speed up market access.
“In areas where fiber deployment is still years away, we offer a faster alternative,” he stated.
Recently, Savannah has been the site of expansion efforts by a multitude of internet service providers.
In September of last year, IQ Fiber announced an expansion into Savannah’s market.
LiveOak Fiber and Seimitsu also have previously announced a strategic partnership that will help accelerate LiveOak’s network expansion efforts in Savannah.
